2 sticks butter
2 cups light brown sugar
1 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons cinnamon
8 to 10 cups peeled and sliced Jersey Fresh apples
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • Preheat oven to 350

  • Melt butter in a saucepan. Cool slightly and then add light brown sugar, flour and 2 teaspoons cinnamon. Stir to mix and set aside

  • Mix apples with sugar and remaining teaspoon of cinnamon. Tart apples that will retain share are best like Granny Smith

  • Mound apples high in large, lightly buttered baking dish (they will settle after baking)

  • Crumble topping with a fork

  • With your fingers, scatter the topping over apples, pressing down lightly if necessary to ensure that it does not fall off

  • Bake until topping is crusty and fruit is tender (about 30 to 40 minutes). If crisp starts to get too brown before apples are done, cover lightly with aluminum foil

  • Serve warm, at room temperature, or cold. Good with vanilla ice cream
